Suicide memorial at Furness Rugby Club

A service of reflection for people affected by suicide is being held at Furness Rugby Club, Crosslands Park Road, Barrow in Furness.

The event, from 7- 9pm on Wednesday 20 November will be hosted by Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System and  Listening Ear's Amparo service, which provides support following suicide.

The evening aims to provide a space for thought and reflection in supportive surroundings.

Louise Thomas, Clinical Network Programme Manager for Lancashire and South Cumbria ICS, said:

“We are delighted to be co-hosting this event in Barrow with Listening Ear. We would encourage as many people as possible to attend to share their memories, and receive much-needed support.”

During the memorial there will be personal reflections from people that have been affected by suicide including ex-professional footballer Clarke Carlisle, ex Rugby league player Phil Vievers, and former Super League referee Ian Smith.

Richard Brown, Listening Ear CEO, said:

“We have been delivering AMPARO for nearly 5 years. Amparo aims to reduce stigma, support bereaved families, and bring local services together to provide cohesive care and support when a suicide has occurred within a community.”

All people affected by suicide are invited to attend the reflection at the club in November, with an opportunity to meet others who have had similar experiences.
